Newton's Nook Designs' November Release ~ Joyful Tags

Hello everyone!  Welcome to the first day of Newton's Nook Designs' November Release and today Jen has a set that will coordinate puur-fectly with her Tags Times Two Die set but looks great on cards too - introducing 'Joyful Tags':

Lately I have been loving the trend of black backgrounds for holiday themed cards and merchandise, so I incorporated that into my card using the 'Merry & Bright' tag design:

Merry & Bright plaid tag card by Crafty Math Chick | Joyful Tags stamp set and Pines & Holly and Tags Times Two die set by Newton's Nook Designs

I added some die cut sprigs and a pine cone using NND's Pines & Holly die set as well as an accent and though the gold foil paper from American Crafts would really make the black stand out and I thought this was the PURRFECT opportunity to use some of my favorite tartan red plaid patterned paper!  I added an eyelet (anyone else still use their eyelets?  I still love 'em and enjoy using them on cards).  I threaded a wee bit of white & gold twine through it to complete the look.

Would you like to win the “Joyful Tags” Stamp Set?
This set will be given away to ONE lucky winner

25 Tags of Christmas 2016 ~ Newton's Nook Designs

Welcome!  Today is the third day of the '25 Days of Christmas Tags Blog Hop' organized by Tracey McNeeley.  There are a lot of amazing sponsors who generously stepped up to sponsor this fun event to inspire you to get a head start on your holiday tags before the holiday chaos has set in (see below) but today Newton's Nook Designs' is the proud sponsor - WOO HOO!  Let's hear it for Jen & Jeff!

And here are the other amazingly kind sponsors too!

Impressive no?  For more information, stop by Tracey's blog.

I decided to make some tags to accompany the blankets and curly cat toys I crochet (and knit, but mostly crochet) for the dogs & cats at the local animal shelter so they will have something soft and warm under their paws to snuggle up to which often can help calm them or make them happy and increase their chances of being adopted!  (If any of you happen to be knitters or crocheters and are interested in some patterns or organizations you can get involved with, let me know!  I am always happy to share.)  So, without further ado here they are:

Holiday Pet Shelter Donation Tags by Crafty Math Chick | Tags Sampler stamp set, Tags Times Two die set, Flaky Family stamp set, Canine Christmas, Newton's Holiday Mischief Stamp set, Ornamental Newton Stamp set & dies by Newton's Nook Designs

The tags, which were all created using NND's Tags Sampler stamp set and Tags Times Two die sets, are leaning against the doggie blankets and the red, white & green curly things on the sides are the curly cat toys - I found out about them from the nice lady who runs the 'Mats for Cats' group on Facebook - they are wicked easy to crochet and take only about 20 minutes each (when you aren't on pain meds anyway).  If you were hoping for close ups on the individual tags, you are in luck!

First, here is the puppy:

Snow Puppy tag by Crafty Math Chick | Flaky Friends stamp set, Tag Sampler Stamp Set, Tags Times Two die set, Canine Christmas stamp set by Newton's Nook Designs

He is from NND's Flaky Family set.  I still remember how ecstatic I was when Jen revealed a snow puppy and snow kitty were included with this set!  I outlined him with loose glitter using a Quickie glue pen and added a few glittery embellies.  The 'Happy Howl-i-days' sentiment, the I LOOOOVE was stamped using Memento markers from NND's Canine Christmas set.

For the middle tag I really just focused on using the elements in the Tags Sampler set because I was OVER THE MOON when Jen said she was including not only knitting in the set but crochet as well (THANK YOU JEN!  YOU ROCK!) The little die cut candy cane is from the recently released Ornamental Newton stamp and die set and the paw print shaped rhinestones were by The Paper Studio from Hobby Lobby.

Christmas Crocheted Just For You tag by Crafty Math Chick | Tag Sampler Stamp Set, Tags Times Two die set, Ornamental Newton stamp & die sets by Newton's Nook Designs

And lastly everyone's favorite kitty, in snowman form, also from Flaky Friends.  His sentiment is from Newton's Holiday Mischief stamp set.

I just LOVE how SO MANY of Newton's Nook Designs' stamp and die set coordinate with one another!  Don't you?

Thanks so much for stopping by, I always appreciate your time, attention and kind comments.  Have a great day!

Newton's Nook Designs' Inky Paws Challenge #31 - it's a Sketch!!

Welcome back Crafty Peeps! Time for another Inky Paws Challenge by newton's Nook Designs!  And this one is a SKETCH CHALLENGE!  YAAY!  My favorite!  Here is the sketch we are playing with this challenge:

Those of you who know me well know I have issues with slanted elements (I find them very off-putting for some reason - visually I prefer symmetry and slanted pieces tend to defy that), so you will know it was a little bit of a challenge to make this card:

Handmade with Love Crochet Tag Card by Crafty Math Chick | Tag Sampler & Newton Unwinds by Newton's Nook Designs

I used some cable knitted (I have not learned cable knitting yet, someday though!) sweater patterned paper for the background and used the yarn ball image from 'Newton Unwinds'  to decorate the center strip.  The tag was created using the newly released 'Tag Sampler' stamp set and Tags Times Two die set.  I figured it is time to start building up my stash of cards that can accompany all the fun things I make with yarn these days, and these sets are 'PURR' fect for just that (YAAY!  Thanks Jen!).  I still say that little crochet hook is just the sweetest thing!

Are you ready to get your paws inky with us and play along to win a prize?  The Challenge winner will receive a $10 store credit to Newton's Nook Designs' online store and an Inky Paws Challenge Top Pick Badge to add to your blog!  AND IF there are more than 15 participants, Jen will choose TWO winners, so be sure to tell your friends and to play along too!  Please visit the Newton's Nook Designs' blog HERE for all the details!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Hope you will play along with us!  Can't wait to see what you create!

Newton's Nook Designs' April Release ~ Day 2: Tag Sampler

Welcome back to the second day of Newton's Nook Design's April Release!  I am TOTALLY in LOOOOVE with the set Jen is revealing today, because it combines ALL my favorite hobbies rolled into one -- Introducing 'Tag Sampler':

Don't you just LOVE the little banners for CROCHET (SQUEEEE!  I have seen other sets that mention knitting or sewing but NEVER CROCHET and crochet is one of my FAVORITES!  If you haven't tried it, you don't know what you are missing out on people!  LOOK at the sweet little crochet hook image!!  Thank you so much Jen!  THANK YOU!!), knitting, sewing (which includes quilting), and stitching covers all you folks who embroider and needlepoint out there!  So even though I knit and sew (and did needlepoint and embroidery too in my earlier days) I am paying homage to CROCHET in my creations today:

Here is a little card I made to accompany a blanket I crocheted for my niece:

Crocheted border Card by Crafty Math Chick | Tag Sampler by Newton's Nook Designs

I crocheted a single crochet border ('sc chain 2 sc' repeated and 3 sc in the corners - for my crocheting friends) around a series of holes I punched using a 3/16th inch hole punch - trying to achieve spacing was a little tricky I must admit.  I used size 3 yarn with an E hook for this project.  Originally I envisioned using a B hook and embroidery thread, but it was splitting horribly (I have a new found respect for folks who do that teenie tiny amigurumi crochet!) and was difficult to see even with magnifying glasses and it was torturing my trigger thumb, so I should best leave tiny scale crochet for my friends with better eyesight and younger hands. I tried to match the colors in the blanket, which are deep purple, fuchsia and light pink.  The blanket is done with two strands of chunky yarn (size 5) and a Q hook according to this great tutorial by Melanie Ham if anyone is interested.

I also tried to crochet a double crochet shell border around the main panel, but that looked... clunky? on paper - paper is not as forgiving as yarn, and in order to have holes that were big enough to fit five double crochet stitches left gaping semicircles that just weren't pretty, especially the anchoring single crochet stitches in between the shells to hold them down; I though the sc border was MUCH prettier!

I also wanted to show a little love to knitting, as I do enjoy it as well, with this photo of tags accompanying projects I completed last year (thought they acted as good props):

Handstamped Knitting & Crochet Tags by Crafty Math Chick | Tag Sampler by Newton's Nook Designs

The bone was a crocheted amigurumi toy I created in just 2 1/2 hours (which is available as a free pattern from amigurumipatterns.net, but you have to be a member - membership is also free) for my little Ty baby when he was sick using white Caron Simply Soft yarn and the payer blanket is simply knitted stockinette stitch with a fancy crocheted border using Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Tea Leaf and Buff.

If any of my stamping visitors would like to see knitting and crocheting related tutorials and posts in the future - please let me know in the comments!  Likewise, if any of my yarn enthusiast friends would like to see introductory stamping tutorials or videos - please let me know that in the comments as well!

Ooops - in my excitement over this set I forgot to mention is coordinates purr-fectly with NND's Tags Times Two dies:

25 Days of Christmas Tags with Newton's Nook Designs

Hello Crafty Friends!  Newton's Nook Designs is participating in the 25 Days of Christmas Tags event generously organized by Tracy McNeely, where she showcases Christmas tags created with a different company's supplies for 25 straight days.  Isn't that cool?  There are lots of prizes and oodles of inspiration along the way so I hope you will check it out.  Today, Newton's Nook Designs is being highlighted.

Being the huge dog lover than I am (Ty even gives gifts to his doggie friends) I wanted to show off some of Jen's adorable canine illustrations, and selected a lab pup from 'Fetching Friendship' to show how you can really use ANY doggie (or kitty) and turn it into a holiday image by adding a cute Santa hat (as I did here, it was a 'Make it Christmas' embellishment from Hobby Lobby) or scarf:

Labrador Santa pup tag by Crafty Math Chick | Fetching Friendship by Newton's Nook Designs

The tag itself is one of Spellbinders' ornament shaped Nestabilities dies, and I created the holly using a Martha Stewart punch for the leaves and sequins with rhinestones centers or the holly berries.  I tied some silver cording around the ornament top and then tied some tinsel ribbon in festive colors at the base for some added sparkle.  The 'Happy Howl-idays sentiment is from NND's 'Canine Christmas' set and the little 'to: & from:' (I LOVE that little font!) is from NND's new 'Jolly Tags' set.  I have a dear friend who has a black lab pup; she will be finding this attached to his gift this year from Ty.

Hope this tag with inspired you and help start kindling the holiday spirit!  Enjoy!

Newton's Nook Designs' November Release ~ Day 1

Welcome to the first day of reveals for Newton's Nook Designs' November Release!  Today's set will making creating fun & festive holiday tags easy peasy -- introducing Jolly Tags (which has a purrfectly coordinating die too!)

(Do you SEE the sweet little cardinal on the tip of the snowman's carrot nose?!!  EEP!!)  I had SO much fun creating a bunch of tags as well as a little box to hold them all:

Christmas Tags & box by Crafty Math Chick | Jolly Tags by Newton's Nook Designs

I really enjoyed coloring in all these cute tag images with my Copic markers and adding little rhinestone accents and glitter.  Mr. Snowman even got a petite pom pom at the end of his hat.  And they all fit in this little 2" x 3" x 1/2" box I created to house them - I thought it would make a nice pre-Christmas gift, perhaps for a friend who isn't as crafty and might not make tags herself.  What do you think?

Newton's Nook Designs September Release: Final Day

Welcome back for the 4th and final day of Newton's Nook Designs' September Release.  Hasn't this release been TERRIFIC?!!  Jennifer saved a cute foodie set for the last day of reveals that mademy mouth water the first time I saw it called 'Apple Delights':

At first you might think it is just a set for fall, but it is really quite versatile and can be used to make cards and projects for Valentines Day, anniversaries, Thanksgiving, back to school, teacher appreciation gifts, little love notes - so many fun possibilities!

Since I LOVE spiced hot apple cider so much I decided to make a packet holder.  I have seen some cute tea bag holders around, but the apple cider packets are larger than the tea bags, so I played around with the design until I found one I liked.  Here is what it looks like closed:

Here is a close up of the front of the packet with the cute mug of apple cider:

And here are some shots of the inside, so you can see how the packets are tucked inside:

And a close up of the sentiment (made my own homemade patterned paper using the solid apple silhouette stamp in the set):

I thought this would be so cute to tuck into my neighbors' mailboxes for a little fall pick-me-up when the weather is just beginning to get that ever so slight chill in the air.  What do you think?

I made a short video showing off this project in a video HERE.

This set also inspired me to make caramel apples for the very first time:

(I admit I am a bit of an 'apple snob' - Cortlands are my favorite but I can't find any around here (they are AWESOME for eating AND for pies!  Do YOU have a favorite kind of apple?  If so, what is it?), but the commissary had these BIG BEAUTIFUL Granny smiths apples and the Macintosh are starting to harvest as well so I grabbed some of those too).  Here is a close up of the tag I colored with Copic markers and adorned with Glossy Accents on the caramel, a homemade enamel dot, some Pretty Post sequins and some star 'Celebrate It' sequins from Michaels:

Making caramel apples was a lot easier than I expected, and FUN too, and the apples taste GREAT!!  I just followed the directions on the packet (note - allow a little time to unwrap all those caramels and if you are going to add toppings have them right there, because that caramel hardens surprisingly fast!  I was able to dunk a few into chopped walnuts pretty quickly, but when I went to sprinkle some fall sprinkles on the tops of a few after merely setting them down they bounced right off!  Oh, and the package only covers five apples, so if you want more than that, buy more apples!  LOL!!)  I want to go and make some more now!  LOL!  Thanks for the cool inspiration Jen!  I wonder how difficult candy apples are to make... Hmmm...

Newton's Nook Designs July Release - Final Day

Welcome back to the fourth and final day of reveals for Newton's Nook Designs July Release.  Today we are featuring the cat that started it all - Newton - having some fun in the summer sun!  Introducing 'Newton's Summor Vacation":

Aren't these images just precious?  Since my craft supplies are limited while I unpack, but our sunblock isn't (I am on several prescription medications that increase photosensitivity, so I burn really fast, sorry if that is an overshare).  I decided to make a cute tag for our SPF container:

Newton's little sunglasses are actually stamped on silver paper and paper pieced.  How cute would it be to make fun tags or bottle bands for SPF containers passed out at sporting events or pool parties?

Newton's Nook Designs May Release - Day 1

Welcome back Friends, Followers & Hoppers!  Today Jennifer is revealing an adorable set perfect to accompany gifts for students, co-workers, anyone with a love of office supplies -- Around the House:
Aren't these images sweet?!!  The light bulb particularly appealed to me - when I was young a friend gave me a glass jar shaped like a light bulb filled with paper clips in a rainbow of colors.  I loved it so much I still have it to this day.  So when I saw a smaller version of the light bulb jar at Michaels I knew exactly what I was going to create for my preview of this set:
Isn't this a sweet gift for an assistant or a colleague, or a back to school present for a student or someone leaving for college or even for Administrative Professionals Day?!!  I think so!  The paper clips are this pretty shade between aqua & mint that I found in Target's Dollar Spot several months ago.  I think it came together perfectly.

Would you like to win 'Around the House'?
This set will be given away to TWO lucky winners!!

For a 'hottie'

Good morning Friends & Followers!  I'm featured over the on the Newton's Nooks blog today with a little project I created using the cute little hot pepper from Love a la Carte and a lotta bling.

Here is a close up of the tag:
I thought it would be a cute addition to one of those trays when one serves breakfast in bed for their sweetie for any occasion (and Mother's Day is coming up!).  The funny thing?  No one in our house uses tabasco sauce, I bought it just for this project, LOL!!  But I have seen lots of folks using it in restaurants, especially on their eggs, that gave me the idea.
Thanks so much for stopping by!  The great craft room pack out for our upcoming move is under way!  Wish us luck!

Valentine's Day Goodies 2014

Hello friends & followers!  I hope everyone had a wonderful valentine's day!  Sorry I didn't get to post this sooner, but there was a mad rush to complete all the baking and creating and get the goodies distributed before the holiday was over.
First, I made tags for the valentine treats (this year - heart-shaped rawhide treats purchased from Target) that Ty distributes to his neighborhood doggie friends.  Paper Smooches has SO many CUTE dog images out that I decided to play with a bunch of them and make a variety of tags for the treats using their Woofers & Tweeters & Paws for a Cause set:
(I think my favorite is the one on the left of the doxie I tried to color like Ty).

Then I decided to make one inspired by Paper Smooches' Sparks Picture Perfect Challenge's inspirational photo this week:
I drew inspiration from the gold and pink colors and the heart shape and created this tag for one of the treats:
The puppy silhouette, sentiment and paw print images were heat embossed with gold EP (not sure you can tell from the photo, but they are) to match and scalloped heart punched from brushed gold paper and I added a few hot pink rhinestones with my trusty kraft knife.
So, what do you think?  I am also going to enter these in Paper Smooches' 'Fun & Cute; Anniversary Challenge that is currently going on as well.  Here is a group photo of some of the treats all bagged up and ready for distribution:

Now for the human goodies - I went with a froggie 'Hoppy' valentine's day theme for hubby's staff this year.  I found this cute little plush frogs and 'Hoppy Valentine's Day' goodie bags from the Oriental Trading Company and packaged them up with some conversation heart candies, some chocolates and other treats and sealed the bags with some froggie clips I made using PTI's 'Frog Hop' stamp set & coordinating die and some plain clothespins by Creatology that I purchased at Michaels.  I must say, Scrapbookpal.com's 1/4" scrappy covered the front of the clothespin perfectly and was very tacky!  Perfect for attaching the frog!  I punched some hearts out and hand-wrote the sentiment in lieu of a tied on tag, here is a close up of the froggie clip:
And one of the goodie bag with one of the plush frogs posing beside it:
Well, that concludes my valentine goodies for 2014, I hope they were enjoyed by all and maybe provide you with a little inspiration for next year.  Thanks so much for stopping by to view my creations.  Have a wonderful long President's Day weekend!

I'M A MEMBER OF NEWTON'S NOOK DESIGNS' DESIGN TEAM!!

I KNOW!  I CAN"T BELIEVE IT EITHER!  That's ME in the middle row on the right!!  When Jennifer emailed me the good news I literally had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming. Obviously, I am wicked excited as I have been a big Newton's Nook Designs fan since they opened, they won me over with their whimsical critter images, and it is an honor to represent this company.

I thought I'd create a little something new for you to feast your eyes upon as I celebrate my happy news, as you were kind enough to visit my blog.  My friends & followers already know how to love to distribute treats to Ty's neighborhood doggie friends on the holidays, and this year is no exception.  I could not find the totally consumable rawhide lollipops that I used in years past this year, so instead I opted for these festive rawhide 'candy canes' instead.
Isn't that sentiment 'Happy Howl-idays PERFECT for this?!!  I KNOW!!  The pup is from 'Canine Christmas' and is colored with Copic markers to try to match Ty baby's coloring and framed with some Nestabilities die cuts in festive colors (I was trying to make it resemble a wreath like the one around the pup's neck in the image).  I added a red eyelet (who says no one uses eyelets anymore?!!) and wove some red & white 'candy cane' twine through it and tied it in a great big bow.  One down... twelve more to go... LOL!

Thank you so much for stopping by and letting me share my exciting news with you!  I hope you will stop by the blogs of my new teamies as well - their addresses should be listed in the margin (if they aren't yet, they will be later today - didn't want to post too early and spoil the surprise, wink).  I hope all of your holiday preparations are coming along smoothly!

Cheers!
