Newton's Nook Designs' 3 Year Celebration - July Release - Aloha Newton & Hibiscus Die Set

Welcome back!  Have you been enjoying all the crafty awesomeness Jen has created for us this release?  Day 4 continues with everyone's favorite kitty and pretty stand alone die to please you floral enthusiasts.  Introducing 'Aloha Newton':

And The Hibiscus stand alone die set:

I had trouble deciding which of the adorable Newton images to use, but I settled settled on the one in the hammock to create this card:

Aloha Newton in hammock card by Crafty Math Chick | Aloha Newton stamp set by Newton's Nook Designs

I had fun creating a tone-on-tone background with the outline image of the pretty little hibiscus flower.  Speaking of hibiscus flowers I really love the detail of the Hibiscus dies:

Mahalo Hibiscus card by Crafty Math Chick | Hibiscus die set by Newton's Nook Designs

This time I sponged the background to create a graduated effect - which did you prefer - this sponged one or the brayered one yesterday?  I think I prefer the brayer, the colors were richer, though they REALLY soaked that cardstock, had to hit it with a heat gun before embossing it was so wet!

Newton's Nook Designs' June Release ~ Flower Garden

Welcome back for the second day of Newton's Nook Designs' June Release!  Today Jen is revealing another pretty floral set that coordinates perfectly with the Garden Window Die Set debuted yesterday -- introducing 'Flower Garden':

Aren't her illustrations incredible?!!  Look at that pansy!  Being a fan of the autumn months (and weather) I decided to give the sunflower a little love with a fall color palette:

Sunflower microbeads card by Crafty Math Chick | Flower Garden Stamp set by Newton's Nook Designs

I added a little texture with some cool jute ribbon and added some bronze microbeads by Martha Stewart to the center of the sunflower - not sure they show up in the photo, but they look (and feel) cool!  Of course, they are a pain to work with and I gave up trying to get the access back in the bottle from the paper plate I was using, and of course, some still ended up on my craft table anyway, sigh...

Would you like to win a 'Flower Garden' stamp set?
This set will be given away to ONE lucky winner!

Newton's Nook Designs' May Flowers Blog Hop

Hello Everyone!  Jen is in a springy mood and wanted to celebrate with a festive floral hop, so we are showing off Newton's Nook Designs' sets with floral elements.  I chose to highlight NND's 'Basket of Wishes' with this Mother's Day card for my MIL:

Floral Mother's Day Card by Crafty Math Chick | Basket of Wishes by Newton's Nook Designs

I used sentiments from 'Simply Seasonal' and 'Wagon of Wishes' to create the sentiment and some glittered floral patterned paper from a DCWV mat stack and topped it with a petite bow tied from some pink & white twine.  My husband prefers cards on the simple & classic side, so that is usually what I am asked to make for his Mom.

Let's Have a Giveaway!

NEWTON'S NOOK DESIGNS' ~ 2 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!!

Welcome to Newton's Nook Designs Second Anniversary Blog Hop!
Newton’s Nook Designs is so excited to be celebrating their TWO Year Anniversary - two whole years of getting our paws inky!  To celebrate we have an AMAZING blog hop featuring our Design Team and some AWESOME Special Guests! You are going to love all the fun inspiration they're sharing using Newton’s Nook Designs Stamps!

I know I am so happy for Jen, Jeff, Newton & Hobbes.  Not only is Jen wicked talented and the creator of fun images and now DIES for us to create with, but they are all wonderful people as well.  It has been such an honor as well as a pleasure to design for such a fabulous company with terrific people behind it -- thank you so much for this opportunity!  I am humbled...

In honor of NND's TWO YEAR (WOOT!) anniversary, I thought it would be fun to include small images from many of Jen's other adorable sets in my hop cards.

When I first saw Newton's Naptime, one thing instantly came to mind - The Snuggles Project.  It is a charitable organization that contacts shelters around the globe (yes, it is worldwide) and asks if they would be interested in receiving handmade blankets for their shelter pets until they are adopted, as some of them have never felt the touch of something soft under their paws, to help provide them with a greater sense of safety and security and comfort, which will increase their chances of adoption as well.  If you are interested, you can read more about the Snuggles Project HERE.  As my NND bio mentions, I enjoy knitting and crocheting, making blankets for animals in shelters helps combine my love of animals and adoption advocacy with my enjoyment with playing with yarn - win-win!!  So when I saw Newton sleeping peaceful on top of that stack of blankets...  I just HAD to use it to create a card to give to the shelter volunteers when I drop off the blankets I've made:

Shelter kitty Newton dreaming of a home by Crafty Math Chick | Newton's Naptime by Newton's Nook Designs

Newton's Naptime is the focus, using NND's new Newton's Naptime Purr-fect DIES to cut out both Newton, his dream bubbles and the teenie red hearts.  I tried coloring in the blankets in colors of yarn I have used/have in my stash and plan to use for the shelter blankets.  I also thought of the things a shelter kitty might dream of (a home, love, food, toys, etc...) and looked for images in Newton's other sets to act as accessories.  Can you guess all the sets I used?  ('love' is from Flirty Flamingos, the yarn ball, fish bone & wind up mouse are from Newton's Antics (the first NND set I every purchased - had to pay homage to that on their 2nd anniversary!), and the house is actually a birdhouse from Tweet Talk - I used a marker to outline the outside of one of the birdhouses and then added a door and inked up a portion of the 'home tweet home' sentiment to accompany it).  I decided to substitute sequins in place of the tinier thought bubbles for a little flair.

When I first saw the Message in a Bottle dies I was psyched because they are SO VERSATILE!  You could use them to show off all kinds of images!  To demonstrate I created another card for you:

Rose in a Bottle Thinking of You card by Crafty Math Chick | Message in a Bottle and Love Grows by Newton's Nook Designs

I used three additional NND sets in addition to the new Message in a Bottle to create this card: the rose is from Love Grows, the long stem is from Easter Scramble (you easily could have used the cracked egg tulips for this card as well!), and the 'thinking of you' sentiment came from Versatile Vases (could easily use the flowers in that set for this card too!).  Frist I stamped the flowers and leaf (some masking occurred) and colored them in using Copic markers (four different shades of red were used).  The bottle was die cut from vellum cardstock and then stamped; I colored in part of the image with a light blue markers to create the appearance of water.

So, which of my 2nd year anniversary cards do you prefer?  Are you a crocheter or knitter as well as a papercrafter too?  How would you like to WIN a credit to NND to pick up some die & stampy goodness of your own?!!

Welcome back for day 2 of Newton's Nook Designs' April release.  Today we debut a beautiful silhouette floral set for all kinds of your card-creating needs, allow me to introduce: Fanciful Florals:

The pretty side view bloom caught my eye and I decided to stamp it three times and layer it in this Mother's Day card (adding a sentiment from 'Love Grows').

Floral Mother's Day card by Crafty Math Chick | Fanciful Florals by Newton's Nook Designs

The pre-glittered mat is from DCWV's older 'Butterflies & Blossoms' mat stack and I created a layer of postage-friendly faux DP by stamping some of the leaf & flourish images on the green base layer cardstock.

SNSDC67 ~ 3D Flower Embellishments

Hello again Friends & Followers!  Thanks so much for stopping by again this Friday.  This card is made for Sweet 'n Sassy's Digi Challenge 67 - to use three dimensional flowers on your card.  I have to give a shout out to my friend Katie Skiff who was kind enough to send me some Spare Parts Primas for me to use on this challenge since mine are packed (you rock Katie!!).  So here is my take on the challenge using the adorable Lilacs for Cocoa digital image:
We hope you will play along with us, you do not need to use a SNSS digi image (though we sure love to see them and you might find yourself in the SNSS spotlight if you do!) any digi will do, and every card you enter for the month of August you get one entry for a chance to win 3 SNSS digis of your choice!  So play early, play often!  We can't wait to see what you create!
This card also fulfills the requirements of the following additional challenges:
Thanks for stopping by my blog, I hope you have a fabulous weekend!  We will be moving some of our boxes (and all of my crafty supplies - EEEEE!) over to our new abode.

Ribbon Ramblings

Hello friends & followers.  Some of you may know, I am not much of a purple person, but that didn't stop me from participating in the Play Cate Cafe Challenge 81 - the color combination of grape, lime and grey as displayed in this lovely inspirational picture:
However, I could not decide which purple to use: the retired Eggplant Envy, Rich Razzleberry or Concord Crush.  I paired all of them with Kiwi Kiss, which I selected as my green, and thought the Concord looked best - but what to do about ribbon?  If I didn't have a ribbon to match it would clash, so I got out all of my purple ribbon (not really that much of it in my stash) and luckily the only purple that any of my ribbon were remotely even close to was indeed Concord Crush.  We had a winner!  Then, wouldn't you know it, I forgot to leave space for the scalloped piece which actually contained the ribbon that all the fuss was about at the top:
So I went ahead and made a second card; here is the version with the ribbon and scalloped border:
I almost think I like the 'naked' one better, the flowers stand out more - what do you think?  Which do you prefer?

The floral images are from Stampin' Up!'s Fifth Avenue Floral (a wonderful set for just about any color challenge), and the sentiment is from Stampin' Up!'s Upsy Daisy set.  These cards also meet the requirements of the following challenges:
Thank you for the cool challenges and thank you all for taking the time to visit my blog and see my creations.  Have a great day!
