Happy 4th Anniversary Newton's Nook Designs!!

Hello everyone!  Newton's Nook Designs is celebrating their 4th YEAR ANNIVERSARY (WOO HOO!) and Jen was kind enough to ask me to play along with the current Design Team members.  I was so honored and humbled.

Earlier this week Jen debuted the new Winston's Lake House stamp set and its coordinating die:

Well the current Design Team members really knocked it out of the park showing off this new set with their beautiful creations.  When I first saw this stamp set I was really drawn to the loon bird (did Jen hit it out of the park with this illustration or what?!!  She even got the petite white stripes on the bird's neck!  Way to go Jen!)  and the goofy romantic sentiment 'I'm still looney for you' - it is just the kind of thing my hubby would love to get from me for our anniversary, Valentine's Day, or as a little love note (probably because he thinks I am a little looney, LOL!) so I made a card I thought would appeal to him on the masculine side:

I thought the black & white polka dot paper complemented the white dots on the loon's back nicely and created a little eyebrow for expression simply by not coloring that part of the head in black.  I added a little pop of color with the red flag and red rhinestone hearts.

Jen also introduced a brand new line to the Newton's Nook Designs family this anniversary as well - FOUR new stencil designs!!  That's right - not one, FOUR!  Here is a graphic depicting all four of them:

I think they are all really terrific and the NND DT did such a terrific job showing them all off earlier this week, didn't they?!!  Since I love making dog-themed and cat-themed cards so much I decided to make a birthday card using NND's Pug Hugs stamp set and the brand new Paw Prints stencil :

I just secured the stencil in place with a piece of blue painter's tape and sponged the plum perfect ink over the open paw prints and VOILA!  Pretty neat huh?  My first time working with a stencil too!!  I also tried it with my new Crayola Airbrush kit I got back in December - worked nicely with that too!  And both times, all I had to do to clean the stencil off was run it under the faucet and the ink and marker just washed right off, good as new again - can't get much easier than that!  :)

Would you like to try NND's new stencils for yourself?  Well as part of Newton's Nook's 4th anniversary celebration, you can receive the Paw Prints stencil FREE with a $75 purchase from Newton's Nook Designs!  Cool no?  But the promotion only runs for one week so don't wait too long!

A Card for Your 'Sweet-Tea'

Welcome!  Today it is my turn to be featured on the Newton's Nook Designs' Blog (YAAY!) so I decided to have a little fun with a play on words with this card using the newly released Freshly Squeezed stamp set and elements & sentiments from the previously released 'Sweet Summer' and 'Love a la Carte' stamp sets as well:

Card for your Sweet-Tea by Crafty Math Chick | Freshly Squeezed, Sweet Summer & Love a la Carte stamp sets by Newton's Nooks Designs

I have always loved lemons and lemon flavoring, I do not know why.  I even think lemons themselves look cute, so I had so much fun contently coloring up all these lemons.  I added some clear, yellow and red gloss using my Sakura Glaze gel pens to the lemon rinds, hearts and the mason jar, but I don't know if it shows up much in the picture.    This is a perfect card from my hubby who frequently calls me his 'Sweetie' and loves sweet tea and brewing his own sun tea in the backyard during the summer months.

Hope you like my card!  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Newton's Nook Designs' Inky Paws Challenge #32 ~ Use an Arrow

Hello Everyone!  I hope you all enjoyed a relaxing Memorial Day Weekend and were able to reflect upon those who selflessly sacrificed their lives to help protect the freedoms with which we are all blessed.  It is my turn to be featured on the Newton's Nook Designs' Blog (yaay!) so I wanted to make a card to play along with the current Inky Paws Challenge - to use an arrow.

I knew this challenge was the purr-fect opportunity to feature the new Points & Plumes die set.

Owls in Love card by Crafty Math Chick | Magical Dreams & Sweetheart Tails stamp sets & Points & Plumes die set by Newton's Nook Designs

Originally I was going to have one of the owls 'riding' on the arrow, clenching it in its talons.  But I couldn't decide - do I use the feminine shy owl from Sweetheart Tails?  Or the adorable barn owl from Magical Dreams?  (which I purchased long ago and still had yet to use!)  I couldn't decide (big shock there) so I altered the design and used both - yaay!!  I masked them and had them perch on the branch from Hanging Around, which I extended with a ruler and a black gel ink pen.  I simply cut the arrow die cut in half and positioned it so it looked like it was piercing the heart above - VOILA!  Hope you like it!

Thanks so much for stopping by and taking the time to look at my card.  Hope your May ends happily and your June was a wonderful beginning!

Newton's Nook Designs' May Release ~ Day 2

Welcome back to the second day of Newton's Nook Designs' May Release!  Today Jen is releasing a cool versatile stamp set with some cool patterns and designs as well as TWO dies that complement it.  Introducing 'Adventure Awaits':

And the purr-fectly complementary die set 'Points & Plumes':

AND the purr-fectly complementary die set 'Splendid Stags':

(I personally LOVE these!)

For some reason, my romantic nature won over my sense of adventure and I was channeling Valentine's Day with this set:

Adventure Awaits Valentine by Crafty Math Chick | Adventure Awaits stamp set and Points & Plumes dies by Newton's Nook Designs

I had fun die cutting all the different styles of arrows (so many different styles in the stamp images too!) creating this background design.

The stag dies took me in two directions.  First to Father's Day with this rustic woodgrain card (LOVE woodgrain - the sentiments are from NND's Winston's BBQ BTW):

Rustic Buck Father's Day Card by Crafty Math Chick | Splendid Stags dies by Newton's Nook Designs

And then to Christmas:

Merry Rudolph Reindeer card by Crafty Math Chick | Splendid Stag dies, Happy Little Thoughts Stamp set & Holiday Wishes stamp set by Newton's Nook Designs

(Okay, okay, truth be told, my mind went to Christmas first - I saw that silhouette and instantly envisions putting a red rhinestone on that nose!  But Father's Day is more seasonal at the moment, so I uploaded that one first).  Seriously though, how EASY would it be to crank out a BUNCH of these in a short period of time when you are wicked busy with holiday goings on?  The wreath is from 'Happy Little Thoughts' which was revealed yesterday and the 'Merry' sentiment is from the whimsical 'Holiday Wishes' NND stamp set.  I can't wait to play with this design in other color combinations... thought I do love my woodgrain.  ;)

Would you like to win a 'Adventure Awaits' stamp set?
This set will be given away to ONE lucky winner!

Newton's Nook Designs' Sweet Treats Blog Hop

Hello everyone!  Welcome to the 2016 Newton's Nook Designs' Sweet Treats Blog Hop!  Jen thought it would be fun to inspire you all with some homemade treat holders featuring her adorably illustrated stamps just in time to whip up some Valentine's Day Treats!

I thought I would show you something a little different and make a few non-traditional Valentine treats.  I hope you like them!

Anyone who knows me knows I am a HUGE fan of EVERYTHING 'DOG' - so I couldn't miss out on the opportunity to make and show off a Valentine for your favorite canine (OOOH!  That rhymes!  Jen - note for future sentiments!  LOL!)

Lab-Adore Clear Valentine Biscuit Box by Crafty Math Chick | Fetching Friendship by Newton's Nook Designs

I took one of those clear acrylic card boxes designed to hold  a set of 4.25" x 5.5" cards & envelopes and filled it with mini Milk Bone Biscuits (yes, Ty was very attentive of his Mommy whilst I created this project, LOL!).  I used a Fiskars paw print border punch on both sides of a strip of Blushing Bride cardstock.  Then I took a strip of white cardstock and created a patterned background using the heart, outline paw print (which is stamped in pink and extremely light in this photo), and solid & outline bone images along with the 'LAB-Adore you!' sentiment, perfect for Valentine's Day!  Then I took the sweet Labrador image from 'Fetching Friendship' that had a tennis ball in his mouth and 'replaced' it with a red heart I punched out by gluing the heart in the appropriate place and paper piecing the top part of his head & upper jaw (which had been stamped separately, colored and fussy cut out) over it - TA DA!  Instant way to make this cute puppy hold anything in his mouth!  Adhered them together and wrapped them around the box as a decorative band - VOILA!  Canine Valentine complete!  :)

I purchased 'Campfire Tails' a long time ago and still had yet to give it any love, so I looked for a way to create a masculine valentine using it.  I have always found masculine valentines to be such a challenge - I know my husband doesn't like seeing pink on cards, so you have to get creative to come up with things to appeal to the men in our lives.  I saw the 'hooked on you' sentiment and thought 'How perfect would this be to pair with Pepperidge Farm Goldfish crackers or Swedish fish?!!'  Not too 'girly' right?  So that is what I did, and since I am a very indecisive person and couldn't decide which snack would appeal to my viewers most - I created toppers for both (plus - double snackage for us that way right?  LOL!)

Winston's Fisherman Valentine Treats by Crafty Math Chick | Campfire Tails by Newton's Nook Designs

So, which coloring of Winston do you like better?  Which treat is your favorite?  A little handy tip - if you buy the small box (designed for home movies for 98 cents at the time of this posting?) the fish come in a little sealed plastic bag already - I just took that (it measured 3.75" wide) and folded one end over and made a topper for it - no reason to simply empty it into an additional plastic baggie, right?  (and am I the only one surprised that is all the Swedish fish you get from such a big box?... just curious)

In "Love' with Newton's Nook Designs

Hello!  We weathered the blizzard of 2016 here.  Over 2 feet of snow, drifts up to 5 feet in some areas and higher than that after plowing, but we were blessed and didn't lose power or have trouble with the roof (YAAY!) so I can just reap the benefits of all of my yarn organization efforts right before the storm!  (I envisioned the roof collapsing and soaking all of my precious yarn and ruining it - couldn't let that happen!  So almost all of it is in plastic bins now, neatly organized by brand and type, YAAY!  My husband teases me whenever he sees disasters like tornadoes or floods or hurricanes on the news 'There go your stamps Honey, allllll your designer papers just floooooating/blooooowing away... bye bye... neeeeever to be seen again...  Ooops - it's taking your yarn now too!  Oh no!  What will you do!')

I am helping out with a post on the Newton's Nook Blog again today.  I decided to keep it simple and play along with Newton's Inky Paws Challenge 28: Love Theme using Winged Wishes and the new Darling Hearts die set:

CAS Simple Love Valentine by Crafty Math Chick | Winged Wishes & Darling Hearts Dies by Newton's Nook Designs

I was inspired by the delicate necklaces that are comprised of scripty words and knotted one of of some thin twine and threaded it through the loop of the 'l' and then repeated the process for the loop of the 'e' and let the cute little birdies be lifting the scripty love up that way.  I don't know if I will give this one to my husband for Valentine's Day yet, he already saw it and commented how much he liked it, and he tends to favor CAs style cards, but nothing ever seem special enough for my hubby, I mean he is my HUSBAND - you know?  Do you ever feel the same way about your family members?

Thanks so much for stopping by to see my card.  I hope you have a wonderful week!

Newton's Nook Designs' January Release ~ Day 2

Welcome back to the second day of Newton's Nook Designs' January release!  Today's set features some cute snuggling pets along with some fancy hearts and sentiments perfect for a variety of occasions.  Introducing 'Darling Duos':

And there are Purr-fectly matching DIES for this set too!  SQUEEEEE!

Don't you just LOVE the stitching on the heart?!!  I sure do!

Since Jen included dogs with this set (THANK YOU JEN!!)  I just HAD to use them in my card:

Doggie Daddy Father's Day card by Crafty Math Chick | Darling Duos stamp set by Newton's Nook Designs

Since our furbaby Ty gives his Daddy cards on holidays (oh come on, you know you do it too!) I decided to make a card for him to give his Poppa for Valentine's Day.  I selected a more masculine color palette and created the background using the heart with the paw print (LOVE THAT IMAGE JEN!) and the petite solid heart stamps in the set.  I cut the stitched heart shape out using the set's dies and then stamped the image of the doggie duo on it and colored it in with Copic markers.  I added the 'DAD' from NND's 'Winston's BBQ' set to the 'you & me' sentiment from this set to personalize it for my husband.  I could tell Ty knew the card was for him to give his Daddy because he stayed very close to me as I worked on the project and was extremely attentive when I snapped the photo... or maybe he just wanted the treats?...

What do you think?  ;)

Yipes! Stripes! With Newton's Nook Designs

Welcome!  I have to admit, the day Jen sneaked 'Wild About Zoo':

That little zebra instantly reminded me of the colorful zebra from Fruit Stripe gum.  Don't remember Fruit Stripe Gum?  Curious as to what it is?  Here are some links to fill you in: 1970's commercial & 1990's commercial (you have that in your head now, don't you?).  It is difficult to find in stores, but you can find it at specialty candy stores online if you do a google search for it.  One of these days I will buy a brick of it and come up with some cute treat holder for it.

Anyway, that was my inspiration for today's card:

The cute little zebra's tails was difficult to fussy cut around, so I gave him a rainbow one instead created by 6 strands of embroidery floss twisted together in shades that matched the brightly striped paper.  I think this will be a perfect card for Operation Write Home for a deployed service member to send to his or her daughter back home.

I am also submitting this card for Simon Says Stamp's Monday Challenge: Anything Goes (did you know Simon Says Stamp also sells Newton's Nook Designs?  They do!!)

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have a bright & colorful day!

Hello everyone!  Welcome to the first day of Newton Nook Designs' February Release.  Today's set is perfect not only for Valentine's Day, but for Anniversaries and any time you want to share a little love, introducing 'Bunny Hop':

Who doesn't think bunny butts are adorable?!!  So I of course chose this image for my card:

Bunny Butt card by Crafty Math Chick | Bunny Hop Stamp set by Newton's Nook Designs

I created a larger bunny for the Newton bunny to snuggle with using shapes from circle punches and gave him a sparkly pom pom tail and added some sparkly flock to Newton bunny's tail with a quickie glue pen.

Since this card features two widdle bunnies I am also entering it into Simon Says Stamp's Wednesday Challenge: 'all creatures great and small' (did you know that Simon Says Stamps carries NND?  Cool huh?)

Would you like to win 'Bunny Hop'?
This set will be given away to TWO lucky winners!!

Newton's Nooks Designs' Sweet Treats Blog Hop

Hello everyone!  Welcome to the 2015 Newton's Nook Designs' Sweet Treats Blog Hop!  Jen thought it would be fun to inspire you all with some homemade treat holders featuring her adorably illustrated stamps just in time to whip up some Valentine's Day Treats!

Since I LOVE making treat holders, I have created a variety of styles for your viewing pleasure today.  The first, one of my favorites, the Ghirardelli box  - perfectly designed to hold 3 decadent Ghirardelli chocolate squares:

I stamped and cut out the wagon from NND's Wagon of Wishes set

and loaded it up with lot punched hearts in assorted shapes & sizes with a few teenie heart-shaped sequins thrown in for a touch of shine and added the 'loads of' sentiment on the outside and 'love' from the NND Flirty Flamingo's set on the inside.

For my second treat holder, I went with the tried and true mini pizza box  - which is perfect for holding treats of all shapes & sizes:

This cute little raccoon from NND's Sweetheart Tails

hides lots of Lindor truffle hearts inside with 'You stole my heart' stamped on the rim (thought it was cute that the candies were shaped like hearts for this sentiment).

My last creation was made with folks who might think non-candy treats are far more sweet - people who are diabetic perhaps, etc.  I made a pencil holder using some pencils from a cute Valentine themed $1 pack and the cute owl from Sweetheart Tails as well.

The sleeve also holds 8 or 7 Pixie Stix quite nicely, I described how to make these in THIS POST.

Since my projects feature animals I am also entering them in this week's Mod Squad's 'All About Animals' Challenge

Know what the greatest thing is about all the treat holders in my stop on the hop?  They are ALL WICKED EASY to make!  Seriously!  Each one was cranked out in a matter of minutes, then you just spend as long as you like embellishing them up!

Would you like to win a $10 gift certificate to Newton's Nook Designs?
