Newton's Nook Designs July Release - Day 2

Welcome back followers, friends & hoppers!  Ready for Day 2 of Newton's Nook Designs' July reveals?  Today we are debuting 'Beach Party":

All of Newton kitty's fun friends enjoying some summer fun!  I chose to highlight little Winston bear for my project:

I stamped Winston twice, once on the cardstock and then again on a Post-It note to create a mask so I could make it look like he was leaning up against one of the surf boards, and gave them the appearance of being stuck in the sand by tearing some kraft cardstock (still unpacking remember?  Supplies are limited so I had to be creative...).

Newton's Nook Designs July Release - Day 1

Helloooooo again Friends & Followers!  Thanks so much for your patience during my brief hiatus from blogging - we were involved with a cross country move and had an extended stay in a hotel... glad that is all in the past.  We are still unpacking but it is time to take a break from that to celebrate Newton's Nook Designs July Release - WOO HOO!  Just wait 'til you see what Jen has in store for you!  Starting with today's revealed set: Newton's Daydream:

When I saw this I knew I wanted to fill that daydream bubble with all the fun things that might be going through Newton kitty's mind as he napped:

I borrowed the ball of yarn, the fish bone and one of the wind up mousies from Newton's Antics and the wrapped fish to supplement the wind up mousie from Newton's Daydream.  Those look like good kitty thoughts, right?

Happy Anniversary!

Hello Friends & Followers!  As you read this I should be arriving in our new state, though I am not sure of the availability of our house at the time I author this post (wish me luck!).  

I wanted to share the card I made for my hubby for our anniversary using Newton's Nook Designs' 'Sweet Summer' set and Cuttlebug's Preserves embossing folder:

I masked the pear and stamped it twice (needed a pair of pears right!  Good homonyms lesson for your little ones!) and colored them in using Copic markers.  I just love the little hearts Jen added to the pears when she illustrated this set.  

'Sweet Summer' is a really adorable and versatile set, I would definitely consider adding it to your NND collection if you don't already have it!

Newton's Nook Designs June Release - Day 2

Welcome back friends, followers & NND hoppers!  Today we are previewing an adorable fruit themed set that is perfect for so many occasions, 'Sweet Summer':

See what I mean about versatility?  I decide to give the cute watermelon slice a little love, since I never seem to have enough 'thank you' cards in my stash:

This watermelon card is so simple to make!  I simply cut two circles using my Spellbinders Nestabilities dies, the larger one in Glorious Green and the smaller one in Melon Mambo scored each in half and stacked them - easy peasy!  Then I stamped the cute watermelon slice (you do see the cute little heart Jennifer added, right?), colored it with my Copic markers, cut it out and attached it to the card base.  I added the sentiment and doodled in the watermelon seeds myself.  VOILA!  Okay, now my mouth is watering for fresh watermelon...

Newton's Nook Designs June Release - Day 1

Hello Friends & Followers!  Time for another great release from Newton's Nook Designs, WOO HOO!  Today we are previewing 'Chicken Scratches' a fun country set with lots of cute chicks:

I wanted to emboss that chicken wire pattern in silver EP but all my EP was already packed up for our move (which we will be in the middle of by the time you read this) so I opted for a CAS style card with a Mama hen and her brood of baby chicks:

(kinda reminded me of the Partridge Family - you have 'Come On Get Hap-py' playing in your head now, don't you?)  If I could make this card again I would have offset the last little chick who is looking down at the ground a bit more, so it looked like it was lagging behind.

This Little Light of Mine...

Hello Friends & Followers!  I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend and took a moment to reflect upon and thank everyone who has sacrificed to insure our freedom and how much we have to be grateful for, I know I did.  Sorry my posts have been so few & far between lately - we've been packing to prepare for a move and all the 'fun' things that accompany one!

I am featured on the Newton's Nook Blog today with a little luminary I created using an electric tea light and the lamp image from 'Around the House':

Isn't it a cute way to 'bright up' someone's day?  It's really easy too!  I simply stamped the lamp image on a sheet of navy cardstock (wanted something dark for the greatest contrast) and cut out the shade with a craft knife.  I stamped it a second time on some patterned paper and paper-pieced the base on, and then stamped the image a third time on vellum and colored in the chevrons using some alcohol markers (I let them dry overnight).  I cut around the lamp image, leaving a rim to tape into place on the back side of the navy cardstock and wrapped it around an electric tea light and - VOILA!!  Homemade luminary!  Oh yeah, I added a little glitter glue to the 'pull switch' as well, so it would show up against the navy background.  See how easy that was?  I hope you like it!  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Newton's Nook Designs May Release - Day 2

Welcome back Friends, Followers & Hoppers!  Today Jennifer is revealing an adorable set perfect for BBQ invites or scrapping those summer picnics -- Winston's BBQ:

We received an AAFES gift card as a wedding present from some of my husband's colleagues; we used it to purchase our first gas grill.  I had taken some pictures of my husband breaking it in for the first time to commemorate the occasion and knew this set would be perfect to create some journaling cards for my pocket page layout:

Here are some close ups of the 3 x 4 journaling cards I created to accompany the photos:

(I like the hamburgers framing the journaling, hee hee hee!)

The C7 marker bled a little bit, grrrr!  And the grass was in my scrap stash (we are moving soon and a lot of my craft supplies are already packed up, so I am working with what I have here).  I used red, yellow & orange markers to ink up the 'flames' coming from the grill and used a speech bubble die cut to make the grill give my hubby a compliment on his skillz (it looks like it is talking anyway, doesn't it?)
